The importance of our oral health

The importance of our oral health

The bisphosphonates treatments of some pathologies related with bones, such as osteoporosis or some types of cancer metastasis, could condition some dentistry interventions realization.

If a patient is taking the named medication, and require from dentistry treatment, principally implants, extractions or any other kind of oral surgeries, should suppress or abolish during determined time the ingestion of such medicines due to the fact that some risks exists of bone necrosis of maxilla or mandible. Moreover, these medicines (bisphosphonates) remain on tissues during a very long time.

Due to the medicine suspension some disorders in the general therapy or its lengthening, it is recommendable to treat the oral and dental problems before beginning those treatments with bisphosphonates. It is known by everybody the importance of feeding ourselves adequately in every moment of our lives and principally in times where our body could be passing over a general pathologic estate.

In my personal professional experience, I have treated some patients that presented this type of incompatibility of treatments and knowing how hard is to face some diseases I recommend to be up to date in our oral health, so we will be able to avoid those situations such as any other type of systematic  pathologies that could affect us,. This could be a good purpose for the coming year.
